Nourishing Meals Gluten Free Cookbook Review and Giveaway

If you are looking for a book to help you live a healthy gluten free life that will cover the whole family, I have a book for  you.  Nourishing Meals: Healthy Gluten-Free Recipes for the Whole Family by Alissa Segersten and Tom Malterre is a reference book filled with information on  food allergies and sensitivities, the significance of whole foods and why eating gluten free might be the best for your health.  Not only did they include information for you but for those with kids you are going to love the sections on 7 Ways to Help your Child THRIVE and Nourishing your growing child giving you information from birth on!

Oh wait did I mention there are over 300 recipes in this book that are gluten-free, dairy-free and soy-free!  I was lucky enough to get to test some along the way.  The recipe for Kale and Scrambled eggs has become a favorite in our house from the first time I made it.  As you can see I like to add the hot sauce on the plate as suggested.  It’s a great way to start the day off with greens.

If you are a health coach too, you will want to get this book for yourself and your clients.  Make sure you give them a highlighter pen with the book as there will be so much good information they will want to highlight as they read.  Throughout the recipes they offer ingredient, nutrition and kitchen tips plus ideas for variations and what to serve that recipe with.   You will have fun working your way from the breakfast recipes through soups, salads, wraps, meals, snacks, desserts and drinks.

Now I have two wonderful books to give to my clients thanks to Ali and Tom, their first book The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook: Whole Foods Recipes for Personal and Planetary Healthplus share their blog Nourishing Meals.

So here is the best part of this book for you.  The authors have given me enough to give to make 3 lucky winners.  That’s 3 signed copies of Nourishing Meals to give away!

I'm on the list…I love your newsletters! I cook every breakfast and dinner, and weekend lunches…and pack every weekday lunch for everyone in my home…so, basically every meal is made by me. 🙂

  2. Kelly Schaefer October 24, 2012 at 7:19 am #

I am already signed up for your newsletter (yeah!). I cook 90% of my meals at home. Plus, I cook and deliver at least 2-3 meals a week to my parents. I would love to win as I'm in a recipe "rutt" of sorts. I'm getting fresh, farm raised (grain and antibiotic free) produce and meats. I can really tell a difference in how I feel as I incorporate and eat this way. Many thanks for all you do for us! I appreciate it greatly! Kelly

I receive your newsletter. I cook all our meals at home. It is rare we go out to eat. The quality of eating out and gluten free just isn't where I want it to be in my area.

  5. Dawn A October 24, 2012 at 7:49 am #

Hi Diane! I have subscribed to your newsletter. This year has been trying for me as I have had to remove dairy, gluten, eggs, nightshades, and many more items due to sensitivity issues. With my new restrictions I cook every single meal at home. I am unable to eat out unless I order a plain salad of lettuce, cucumbers, onions, and balsamic vinegar (the actual vinegar and not the dressing, as I can't have black/white pepper).

  6. Melissa October 24, 2012 at 7:55 am #

I am on the newsletter list and I love it. I make most all our meals at home during the week. We rarely go out anymore due to my gluten/wheat issues. I make at least 11 meals at home a week. When we are not at school/work we eat at home 🙂

  7. Debbie H. October 24, 2012 at 8:51 am #

    Hi!
I am on your newsletter list…can you enter me in your drawing?
I feel as if I basically live in the kitchen! I cook my meals at home every day…always lunch and dinner, and typically I make breakfast at home too.
Thanks for entering me in the drawing!
    (Great website, btw!)

I'm already subscribed to your email newsletter! On average, I cook about 4 meals a week at home. Mostly I do my cooking on Sundays for the whole week. I love having all four burners and the oven going at the same time!

  13. Deanna October 24, 2012 at 10:56 am #

    I subscribed! (I can't believe I hadn't done that before. Hm….)

Anyway – meals cooked at home per week? Um, pretty much all of them. I maybe eat out once or twice a month.

  14. Amber October 24, 2012 at 11:08 am #

Thanks for the giveaway. I cook 2- 3 nights/wk and make enough for leftovers.

  16. Deborah October 24, 2012 at 11:13 am #

I'm on the newsletter list. I cook almost all of our meals at home. We might eat out once a week, but no more than twice a month. GAPS makes it hard to eat out.

  17. Colleen October 24, 2012 at 11:30 am #

I'm on the list 🙂 I cook breakfast/dinner most days of the week because it is easier than eating out! Just discovered your website and can't wait to get updates.

  18. Deb October 24, 2012 at 11:31 am #

I just subscribed to your newsletter. I cook just about all the meals at home. We homeschool so we're ALWAYS here. Sometimes I can get my kids to join in on the cooking, but they're often off exploring other areas 😉

  19. Jennifer October 24, 2012 at 11:38 am #

New to your site & newsletter…just signed up & am looking forward to it! We (family of 4, including 2 teens; and 2 adults w known food allergies) cook nearly all our meals & lunches at home…we do get maybe one meal a week out, but not consistently. Love Ali & Tom’s work and have been wanting to get my hands on their new book…thanks for the opportunity to try!

  20. Kimberly October 24, 2012 at 12:18 pm #

Subscibed to your newsletter! I'm a stay at home mom who cooks all our meals at home! I love new cookbooks to get new ideas for healthy meals 😉

  21. Deanna October 24, 2012 at 12:32 pm #

I just signed up for your newsletter and found you through Gluten Free Easily on FB. I tend to cook about 90% of our meals, eating out once in awhile. As I have to eat gluten free (plus I'm allergic to beef), sometimes I find it challenging to make something that my husband will also like that doesn't make him feel deprived. I'm lucky, though…he eats just about anything. Always looking for new recipes to try!

  22. Anna October 24, 2012 at 12:58 pm #

I just signed up for your newsletter. Have followed your blog for awhile. I cook all meals gluten free at home for my husband and teenage daughter. We very seldom eat out, so am always looking for more ideas. Would love to get the new cookbook!

  25. jessica October 24, 2012 at 1:32 pm #

I am already on your news letter list, and love it. I cook almost all meals at home and since my son was diagnosed with Celiacs this week we won't be eating out pretty much at all now. Cookbooks and recipe reading is my favorite hobby, would love this book.

  26. Jessica October 24, 2012 at 1:42 pm #

I subscribed and love your recipes! I cook probably 90% of my meals. I spend most of Sunday, after going to the farmer's market, cooking for the week, prepping vegetables and making enough for leftovers for breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the week, as much as possible.

  27. Diedre October 24, 2012 at 2:02 pm #

I eat gluten, dairy, corn, egg and other allergen free here and found their other cookbook helpful in my meal planning and cooking. I look forward to seeing more of the info on your website as I like to use whole foods myself. I signed up for your newsletter. Hi there! I’m subscribed to your newsletter, I’m so glad I stumbled upon your website! I cook for my husband and I every day almost every meal. When we do go out we like to eat at local restaurants who buy from local organic farms whenever possible. At home I have been using Ali & Toms first book, Whole Life Nutrition cook book for months, I also went vegan while my husband went vegetarian. There is no lying we have reaped the benefits of our changed lifestyles and the use of whole food recipes. I am entering the contest because I would LOVE to give the gift of health to my friend who is newly married. 🙂 Thanks for doing what you’re doing with this site, can’t wait to explore some more!

  44. Alethea Gaukel October 24, 2012 at 2:57 pm #

I just subscribed, and I am super excited about doing so. My family of 5 just discovered that we all have gluten sensitivities, with 2 of my three kids being allergic to wheat, dairy, and soy. This is a very eye opening and overwhelming time for us while we discover new ways of eating. I homeschool my kids so I have the opportunity to cook from scratch. We also take meals with us when we are on the go. I cook approximatly 4 meals a day. some days it is only 2 or 3 meals others it is 4.

  45. Mary S October 24, 2012 at 2:58 pm #

  50. Amanda October 24, 2012 at 3:48 pm #

I' m already on your list. I cook nearly every single meal at home. As a celiac at college there are very few friendly dining options, but I don't mind because I prefer to cook my own food so I can ensure it is nutritious. The slow cooker is my best kitchen helper–I usually make oatmeal and dinner every day in there!
