What a great weekend of soccer we were treated to. First, my son’s team played in a round robin tournament and just tore up the field. They are so fun to watch. Oh, and that FIFA 2010 Cup thing going on. Anyone watching that? Did anyone see the 1-1 tie between US and England? Not a bad start. But there will be a lot more soccer to watch. I just wish they had banned those horns. I feel like have bees in my ears.
School is out here at my house and that means my oldest is home from college and working in DC (Yeah!!!) and my 16 year old is going to spend the summer learning how to drive. Does anyone want to teach him?
So I think this week’s menu will need to be flexible to accommodate a new palate in the house (vegetarian), soccer games to watch, upset stomachs from driving and whatever we can harvest from our tiny garden or the farmer’s market. I love when Andy (oldest) goes to his local farmers market and brings me home some treats. Today it’s peas and zucchini. Lots of zucchini.
But also this week contains my favorite day of the year, my wedding anniversary. 23 years and going strong. So to celebrate we’re headed out to a local crab restaurant in DC that I hope lives up to it’s billing. I do love to crack and pick crabs. I could spend all day on that!

I LOVE ZUCCHINI! So I'm definitely a fan of your menu. =)
Amelia- Hope you'll share some of your favorite zucchini recipes too.
A lot of great stuff in this post, Diane. 🙂 First, congrats on your upcoming anniversary–wooohoo! Sounds like a fantastic way to celebrate if you ask me. One day we'll have to eat crabs together. Many folks find crabs too troublesome to pick, but I find that to be great socializing time and enjoy the process. (How can you complain when you're eating every step of the way, huh?) I forgot how close our anniversary dates were. We just celebrated our 28th here in Little Cayman. And, we watched the US and England game here at the bar the first afternoon with mostly folks from across the pond (England + more) and a slightly smaller number of Americans. Those horns ARE annoying! They kind of fade into the background some here, thankfully. Congrats on your younger son's soccer success and having your oldest son home! Have a wonderful week, and again, happy anniversary to you both!
Shirley
Shirley- Happy Anniversary too! I'm with you on the crab fest. I just need to figure out where to buy them where I live so I can have my own crab feast. I do like the eating the whole time and talking. I'm so much faster at picking that I end up picking my crabs and Scotts. He always sits near me so he can get in on my crab pile. What a great place to watch the soccer game. I hope you are having good weather and clear waters. Have a great time!
Happy anniversary! Sounds like you have a busy summer!
Alta- Thank you. I always have this fantasy that summer will be slower with no school. When will I ever learn? As long as everyone is healthy and having fun, who can complain?
I would love to see you at What's On the Menu Wednesday this week. Come check it out:)
Our son played soccer from K-8 grade. We really enjoyed watching and cheering him on.
Our teen will be taking driving lessons this summer too.
We miss farmers markets! There were so many terrific ones in San Diego. Living in Las Vegas we just don't have them. Fresh& Easy is the closest thing to organic vegetables.
Happy Anniversary! Happy Father's Day!
I really enjoyed my visit to your blog. Have a great week!
Rona- Welcome! Wow to go from SD with the most farmers markets per square inch to none must have been a shock to the system. I guess it's hard to grow things out there in mass. Maybe you could start your own garden with good irrigation. Is Fresh & Easy the supermarket?
