Friday Foodie Fix
This is it. The big game and this year the last game of the season. The New Orleans Saints vs Indianapolis Colts. I look forward to this game every year. It’s bitter sweet with it being the last game until next season but there’s always Madden to play!
Are you having the gang over or are you headed to a party and expected to bring a dish? We were going to have some folks over but I think they’ll need snow shoes if they plan on making it before the game’s over. We are awaiting 2 feet of snow that is headed our way. Scheduled to start snowing Friday morning and not stop til the clock hits Sunday. So it’s just me and my guys.
There’s been a request for my Spinach and Artichoke Dip Pizza and I’m happy to oblige. I’m also going to try out some things that have been rolling around in my head like shrimp stuffed pepadew peppers and shrimp and jalapeno wrapped in bacon with Cajun seasonings. I’ll pop them in the oven and cook them on low just like the the Gluten and Dairy Free BBQ Jalapeno Poppers. Now of course this all depends on us having the power stay on. But if the power goes out you know I’ll be headed to the nearest TV that’s on to watch the game. Then I’ll be munching on carrots and chips!
So what about you? What are you planning on making for the big game? Share your recipes here in the comments and using Mr. Linky.
Who’s going to win the big game? Saints or Colts? Weigh in so we can see if we’re better at predicting than the odds makers. I want Saints but I think it will be the Colts.
Next week’s Secret Ingredient is …………………Scallops!
I usually do chili for the big game, but this year I opted for another bean favorite over polenta!
Karen- Love the idea of it over polenta. I'll have to give that one a try.
My husband is in charge of the chili this year, a nice break for me. I'll throw together easy chicken wings and veggies with hummus.
Megan- I love your attitude. That's what makes being in the kitchen fun. You go girl!
I'm linking up my recipe for Avocado Salsa, but I also wanted to include the snack that I've been eating a lot lately. All I do is take Chocolate Chex Cereal and add in cashews, no other additions needed. It sure is fast and easy, and very satisfying.
Heather- Thank you for sharing. Love both of your ideas!
I've linked up the two recipes that I make for any festive occasion–crab ball and brown sugar chocolate chip cookies. If my sister and BIL were having their usual Super Bowl party, they'd be expecting me to bring these. 🙂 Because my BIL had to work this year, they are not having one … and I don't think they'd be able to have it anyway given our current conditions. 😉 I had planned to try out two new artichoke appetizers for us to try tomorrow, but I wasn't willing to brave the store before the storm hit. I'll have to get creative. Hope you can still enjoy the Super Bowl even if your company can't make it. Most important thing is electricity … fingers crossed for us all. (Our lights keep blinking.)
Oh, I'm predicting Colts, which probably means the Saints will win. LOL
Shirley
Shirley- Yep, Saints won. Found out keeping the electricity on was not the only thing. We had to go out and clean off our satellite dish too. Thanks for sharing your recipes. I'd expect those cookies too!
I SO wish I could watch the game, but the time zone thing makes it pretty much impossible…for what it's worth a grew up a Pats fan so I'm totally rooting for the Saints to beat the Colts hehe. But in the end I think the Colts will probably win.
The apple pies I posted were a huge hit with everyone at Thanksgiving, and there was a good deal of football watching going on then, so I think they would work well for the Superbowl too 🙂
Jenn- Looks like you got your wish. Saints won! So you can send over one of those apple pies anytime you want.
