This week marks the end of my short summer vacation and my no drive days. Soccer starts for my high-schooler and that that means driving and working from a mobile office. I’m looking at this as an adventure. It also means that this menu plan is most likely not happening. We’ll be packing sandwiches, stopping at Five Guys Burgers and Fries and eating late. Some of these may happen and others most likely will not but we’ll have to see as the week progresses. I may change things up to include some crockpot meals that can be ready and waiting for us to walk in the door.
I know in many areas school has already started and you are in the thick of filling out paper work, back to school nights, new supplies needed and a ton of other school related tasks. Take time this week to see how things go and then access how your meals went. It might be time to change up your menu too. At the end of this week you’ll want to grab that kitchen inventory so you can see what foods you have on hand. Next grab your weekly menu planner and mark in the events that will make your dinner time rushed or a different time. Then create your September menu according to that.
If you don’t have kids in school, do a little jig and make your menu according to your schedule! If you don’t have a good inventory and menu planner sheet, please email me and I’d be happy to share the ones I’ve created. I’ve added a new column to the inventory for costing out the foods we eat. This way I can see what costs more and see which items cost less that can be incorporated into a meal to stretch that budget. For instance beans are a great inexpensive food to expand a dish for little cash.
Don’t forget this week’s Secret Ingredient for Friday Foodie Fix is Cantaloupe.

looks like a good menu plan, especially the pesto pasta!!
the five guys is also something my husband would drool over!
Courtney- Five Guys can be addicting. During soccer season it is a life saver. I'm expecting more basil today in my CSA so I can make that pasta. Hope it comes.
I think crock pot meals are great for soccer nights.
We ate a perfect cantaloupe the other day. I just don't have any recipes–we always eat it plain or with other melon. I look forward to hearing some ideas.
Linda- I'm looking forward to cantaloupe recipes too. I usually eat it plain or with Prosciutto so I'd like to see what else I can do with it.
Great menu. I'm anxious to hear about Shrimp Surprise.
Heather- The shrimp surprise turned into Tapas. I'll share that on Thursday.
