Finally, a strawberry
We’ve been singing, School’s Out Forever by Alice Cooper around our house this weekend. I’m so glad the finals are over and everyone can relax. Well, at least until work this week for my college son begins and the summer math course for credit begins next week for my HS student. I’ll take any type of break I can get this time of year. I long for the sunny days and the Pacific Ocean. How about you? Any vacations on your horizon? How about a celebration? This Saturday I’ll celebrate 22 years of marriage. How cool is that! I’m a very fortunate gal. Then on Sunday we celebrate Father’s Day. A good weekend full of good food.
Just a reminder this week’s Secret Ingredient for Friday Foodie Fix is Green Beans. Visit our page on Friday Foodie Fix to see all of the past Secret Ingredients and their recipes.
I hope you have a wonderful week full of fun and good food.

We have ONE strawberry that I am convinced will be ready tonight if we get just enough sun today!
Either way it will be ready and eaten before the end of the week.
Zoe- I don't think we'll be making jam but we'll both enjoy that strawberry. Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
Nice plant! My garden hasn't been as prosperous this year. I don't think I'm getting enough sun in NY for my plants 🙁
Love your website. Great useful information.
Celiacs Tips- I have one tiny space that gets the right amount of sun. I had to put this strawberry in a stand in the middle of my deck. Oh well. We must follow the sun!
hey, just found your blog through menu monday. i clicked on yours since it said gluten free. we are starting wk3 of my son going gluten free. it's an adventure for sure! 🙂
my 1 strawberry plant had like 5 strawberries last year, then i left it all winter and it spread and grew into about 20 separate plants and now we actually have strawberries this year. it's still only a few here and there (since the birds keep eating them) but it's nice to see actual FRUIT! i think it has something to do with bees ad cross pollination that you need more than just a few plants to get a good harvest.
oh and happy anniversary! 🙂
Dana- So glad you found this blog. 3 weeks in and you sound so confident. That is so cool. Feel free to ask questions of me and the community. Wow, your strawberries are doing great. I wish I had more area to let it spread out too. Have fun with them. Thank you for the well wishes. Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment.
HI Diane,
What I want to know if where you get the ostrich meat for the ostrich burgers?? I have never had it but remember driving past a farm in California that sold it, I think. How does it taste?
I hope you are well!
Sarah
Sarah- Hi, thank you for stopping by. First let me say we really like ostrich at my house. It has a meaty almost beef taste. Even my picky teen asks for ostrich burgers over beef burgers. It's about half the calories and 1/3 the fat with more protein. I use to get my ostrich at Trader Joes. Now I order it directly from Blackwing Meats. I enjoy the ground ostrich and patties, and the fillets are wonderful too. I also have ordered Bison from them. Let me know if you give it a try. Hope you come back and visit soon and keep those comments and questions coming.
