This week’s secret ingredient for Friday Foodie Fix is ham! Yep another pork product. I have a pig Jones. I can find more ways to use pork in just about any recipe. Believe it or not I have to remind myself to not put pork into everything.
While gathering information on ham I went to my favorite resource, The Deluxe Food Lover’s Companion (Deluxe Edition). They actually have a pork glossary and almost 2 full pages just on ham. Ham comes from the hog’s hind leg. You can purchase unprocessed fresh ham or how most hams you buy are cured hams. If you like pork and you have never cooked a fresh ham you should give it a try. It will taste more like a pork loin than the cured ham you’re used to.
Cured hams are used in so many dishes. You can bake, grill, saute, broil or simmer that ham. I like to grab a ham steak and cube it to pair up with a hash, eggs, roasted vegetables and even pasta. Recently I shared Ham with Peas and Potatoes Au Gratin .
What are you making with ham these days? Are you going to have a ham for Christmas? Will it be fresh or cured? Share your recipes here with the new picture linky and please follow the guidelines.
