This week’s Secret Ingredient for Friday Foodie Fix is grapes. This was by special request. I can’t wait to hear what folks are doing with grapes. I love green, red, champagne and even concord grapes.
Frozen grapes are a fun snack in the hot summer.
Right now I’m in California which is the largest producer of grapes, both for wine and for the table. I’m hoping to get a little of each. If you purchase grapes they say the best way to store them is in a plastic bag in the refrigerator unwashed and they should last a week. I do keep mine in the refrigerator in a bowl and I wash them so we can grab and eat. I’ll often just put the bowl on the table or countertop to encourage fruit eating instead of something else sweet.
Besides wine, grape are great for perserving as jelly or jam. I hope someone has a good recipe for that. I’ve seen people use grapes in risotto and salads but mostly desserts. What about you? What is your favorite way to play with grapes? Of course tossing them to someone to catch in their mouth provides lots of entertainment at my house. Mostly because I’m so bad at aiming and catching.
