Friday Foodie Fix- Honey

Friday Foodie Fix

Friday Foodie Fix

Today’s Secret Ingredient for Friday Foodie Fix is Honey!  Sweet sticky liquid gold.  A wonderful gift to us from bees.  I like honey in my tea, in my muffins, salad dressings, glazes and sauces.  The best honey I’ve tasted came from fellow blogger Shirley from gluten free easily.  Tastes amazing.  I’m not sure what types of flowers her bees hang out with but I like it.

This honey has also been showing up in my hot tea for the past week while I’m fighting off this nagging cold that won’t seem to bug off.  The honey does make my throat feel much better.

After reading Gluten-Free Girl and The Chef’s new cookbook, I’m looking for White Truffle Honey.  They use it in one of their recipes and it sounds amazing.  I have honey and I have white truffle oil.  I’m not sure if I can make my own or not.  I’m hoping to find some so I can taste the real thing.  I have lavender honey and creamed honey but that is the extent of my honey collection.

What types of honey do you have?  How do you use honey?  Share your stories and recipes.  I can’t wait to hear about different types of honey.  Feel free to share as many recipes as you like.  I’d love to see our totals hit an all time high.

Next week’s Secret Ingredient is ……. tomatillos!

Oh I am so ignorant about the world of honey, I usually just have a generic brand of stuff from no specific region/flowers in general… but I love the stuff! Currently it's been helping my husband's sore throat in a cup of mint tea… Today I decided to share a granola recipe I love that combines maple syrup and honey together :)

Honey is my sweetner of choice – as you can tell from my many recipe links (I have many more on my blog!). I usually purchase raw local honey at my farmer's market – in addition to tasting great, it seems the easiest sweetner on my tummy and local raw honey is supposed to have a wide range of health benefits – especially at combatting allergies. Trader joe's mesquite honey is also a good choice for a mild taste, and a very reasonable price! My most frequent use of honey is in salad dressing. Though I haven't tried it, I read an interesting article a few weeks ago that suggested honey is a great treatment for wounds – a lot of hospitals are using these days! So maybe it belongs in our medicine cabinets as well as out kitchen cupboards :).

You now have most of my blog on this Friday Foodie Fix! And, no, these are not all my honey recipes. I know you said to link up as many as possible, but I'm feeling a little obnoxious after adding all those links. ;-) I'm hoping that as the resident beekeeper blogger, I'll be forgiven by others! I could wax poetic about honey and its benefits for days. I'm also including the post where I showed step-by-step photos of us taking the honey from our bees and talk about what flowers they like to "work." :-) Thanks so much for the honey love, Diane! We think it's the best, but we are pretty biased! ;-)

I was inspired by a bottle of mead. You never know where a Friday Foodie Fix will take you.

I knew Shirley would have a lot of entries for this one! I'm adding my honeyed beets recipe. I don't cook with honey much, but I like to use raw honey in tea. Like you, I'm interested in finding white truffle honey.
