Delight Gluten Free Magazine Review

delight fall 09

The latest edition of Delight gluten free magazine arrived at my house this past week.  This is the third issue of the magazine and by all accounts they’re doing great.  I was really excited when they started this magazine with the Spring 2009 issue.  It was full of great tips, recipes with an index, Ask the Doc and a Getting Started Guide.   Those are actually a part of every edition of Delight magazine.

If you look through the first few pages you’ll find the index of what’s included.  They separate the articles into departments such as In Every Issue, Enlighten, Indulge, Healthy Living, Travel and Giving Back.  Love that!  The current issue features a review of the cookbook BabyCakes, Fall Flavor meals, Summer Send Off ideas, and Halloween and Back to School survival guides.

As I read through the articles I am impressed with the time and attention the writers take with their subject.  For instance, The Cupcake Craze written and photographed by Cinde Shields.  When you open to the pages of this article they are filled with pictures of the most amazing looking cupcakes.  I’m assuming that Cinde either made or purchased all of these gluten free cupcakes.  Yes, you can buy gluten free cupcakes.  Read the article to get the list of bakeries and cupcake boutiques offering gluten free cupcakes across the country.   Cinde does a great job of making my mouth water for cupcakes and sharing great tips to get me eating them soon.  Thank you Cinde.  Cinde also writes for her two blogs, Gluten Free Taste of Home and The Freebie Fairy.

You’ll also find a great article about Nourishing Desserts.  Sign me up for those!  Elana Amsterdam shares her knowledge on some key ingredients that will have you baking in no time and eating amazing desserts.  Elana’s new cookbook, The Gluten Free Almond Flour Cookbook is available for purchase.  I have this book and I’m working my way through every recipe.  It’s amazing.  I’ll share more info on that in another post.  You can also find more from her blog, Elana’s Pantry.

Back to Delight.  It is delightful and every page is full of useful information.  They picked the right name to call it.  Even the sub title is spot on, delightful food, delightfully fun.

I really liked the page they included in the current issue on Celiac Disease that you can cut out and give to your child’s teacher and something that can be given to the parents of the rest of the class.  It very simply explains what Celiac Disease is and what your child needs to be safe.  Very helpful.

So if you have not received your issue of Delight, what are you waiting for.  The price is right and trust me, you’ll be saving these as great resources.  If you missed the first two editions,  you can purchase them from their website.

If you do read this magazine or are a part of producing it, I would love to hear from you.  Share your perspective with us via the comments section.
