Diane – this sounds great! I didn’t know ostrich tastes like beef. I’ve never tried it, but I’m all about cooking with new things and I’ll have to seek it out.

I love trumpet mushrooms! I’ve only had the black variety. They are delicious. I found them at the farmer’s market.

Jessie- Mushrooms can be very versatile. There are so many varieties and they all have their own taste and texture. Make sure you don't wash your mushrooms in water or they will get tough and chewy.

Linda- The Ostrich Steak Strips I used cost $4.57 for the 6 oz portion. They have a sampler pack with 5 pounds of meat for $51 and a pound of bulk ground is $6.89. Not as cheap as cheap meats that you're not even sure if they are from the USA but not as expensive as some other healthy meats. It tastes like beef and my 15 year old son loves it. This is the one that only east about 7 different things. Let me know if you give it a try.

Shirley- That's great you gave it a try. Don't think everyone can cook as well as you so you might want to buy some and give it a try. You can order it right from BlackWing. It wasn't very expensive at all. They have steaks, burgers, bulk ground, filets, sausage (need to order that one next time), and the steak strips I used. Trumpet mushrooms are a type of mushroom and they sort of look like a trumpet. There are of course a few different types of trumpet mushrooms. I'll add in some photos to the post since I'm not sure how to add them to a comment. If you find different mushrooms at the grocery, pick some up and give them a try.

That looks like a wonderful meal, Diane! I have to confess that I've only had an ostrich burger before … in Aruba, and I wasn't terribly impressed. I'm sure these strips are better, especially with your recipe! What are trumpet mushrooms?

Ostrich, now that's different and with the mushrooms, my mouth is watering! See, I can eat veggies if mushrooms count. Don't ask why I like mushrooms when they are a strange texture, they shrink and look terrible. I guess I'm fickle.
